3 Secrets to picking the perfect first dance tune.

  1. Do not worry about the length of the song. It’s best to dance only 2-3 minutes of a tune—your DJ can fade in or fade out—after that your guests’ focus is elsewhere. If you play the whole tune, and it’s longer than 2-3 minutes, ask your guests to join you on the dance floor for the remainder of the song.
  2. Slower is not necessarily easier. A deadly slow tune is often much more difficult to dance to, and it can feel tediously long and drawn out--both to you and your guests.
  3. If you don’t already have “your song,” first think of a style(s) of music you both prefer, then an artist or two within that style. If you are stumped, ask your DJ for advice.
